Join us for a day of craft workshops and events at the Tamworth History Center.

A day of creating and learning

You’ve seen the incredible traditional crafts displayed at The Tamworth History Center and now you want to make your own?

This day is for you! You can join us for the morning or the afternoon or for both!

Morning Workshops:

10:00-11:00 Embroidery with Louise Wrobleski 

Have you seen our crazy quit on display? The amazing little embroidered animals and people in it? In this spirit, Louise will lead a simple free form embroidery and hand sewing project. If you have a sewing kit, scrap fabrics, buttons, or ribbons you would like to use in your project, bring those with you.


10:00-11:00

Dowsing: Join local Dowser Danny Wasson as he practices this ancient art on the History Center lawn. Dowsers most commonly use branches and metal rods to find water and other things underground. He will demonstrate and let people try it for themselves! (as time allows)

11:00-12:00 Weaving with Maud Anderson

Learn the basics of weaving on a simple loom you can take home! Suitable for all ages.

Take a closer look at some traditional arts objects from our collection.


12:00-1:00

Lunch and stories

If you stay for the day bring a picnic lunch or head over to The Other Bakery for a sandwich and join us in the shade on the front lawn for some stories from Tamworth.

Afternoon Workshops

1:00-2:00

Musically speaking with Shana and Beverly Beverly and Shana will perform traditional songs and dance tunes collected from the region, drawing from the work of folklorist Eloise Hubbard Linscott, who collected local songs and dances in our area 100 years ago. We'll talk about how music and dance was a part of community life, and teach a dance and/or song.

Dowsing with Dannie Wasson

Have you ever wondered how people know where to dig for wells? Come learn the history of dowsing and hear some great local adventures in dowsing, and try it for yourself.

2:00-3:00

Weaving with Maud Anderson

Learn the basics of weaving on a simple cardboard loom and get started on your own project. Suitable for all ages!

2:00-3:00

The art of letter writing with Jennifer Reed

Explore some letters from our collection and learn how to make some traditional letter forms used in the 17th and 18th centuries.
